Waterfront Fireworks in Madison
Fireworks are a must during the week of July 4th. The best fireworks in Southern Connecticut are luckily in the town of Madison, only a scenic 17-mile drive from Saybrook Point Inn. Madison’s annual fireworks extravaganza will be on July 3 at 9:30 p.m. on West Wharf Beach. Parking is limited, so get there early or take the free shuttle. There are three prime viewing areas in Madison, all of which are beachfront.
Independence Day Parade
No July 4th celebration is complete without a parade. If you’re planning on visiting nearby Madison for the fireworks, come early for the 39th annual Madison Independence Day Parade. The show starts at 11 a.m. The theme will be “Celebrating our Olympic Athletes.” If you’re planning on traveling east to Mystic on the Fourth, head to Groton. Historic Groton is a short 30-minute drive from Saybrook Point Inn, and the town also hosts a July 4th parade at 10 a.m.
1876 Celebration in Mystic
Catch an 1876-style Independence Day celebration four miles east of Groton in lively Mystic. The Mystic Seaport Museum has a full day of events planned from 9-5 p.m., starting with boat races on the Mystic River. In the morning there will also be a walking race, military exercises, and an old-fashioned spelling bee. A large picnic begins at Noon, followed by an 1876 July 4th celebration that you cannot miss.
Minor League Baseball in Norwich
Celebrate the birth of our country with America’s favorite pastime: baseball. The Connecticut Tigers, a Class A baseball team in the Detroit Tigers farm system, plays in nearby Norwich. Watch future MLB stars crack home runs and catch sharp line drives, then finish your July 4th with Pyrotecnico fireworks at the ballfield show after the game.
Live Summertime Music
You’re in luck, July 4th is on a Wednesday! Saybrook Point Inn has live music every Monday-Thursday from 6-9 p.m. on the outside terrace. Grab a signature cocktail at Marina Bar, and become immersed in summer jams, breathtaking views, and family camaraderie.
Your holiday week would not be complete without Fresh Salt’s “Best Sunday Brunch” as voted by Connecticut Magazine, or an afternoon in one of the best spas in CT, Sanno Spa.
