Nestled in the beautiful village of Old Lyme, you’ll have a delightful experience at the Florence Griswold Museum. Known as the Home of American Impressionism, you’ll find yourself captivated by Connecticut history, art, and nature as you meander through the 12-acre site. The museum will take your breath away as you learn about one of the biggest attractions that showcase the history of the Lyme Art Colony. As you walk along, you’ll discover an artist studio, gallery, educational and landscape center, gardens, and so much more! While some areas at the museum are seasonal, many displays are open year-round for visitors to enjoy. 

Connecticut River Museum

Soak up the rich history of the Connecticut River at the museum just down the road from our Old Saybrook inn in the beautiful town of Essex. The museum features free parking, a gift shop, books about the river, paintings and other unique items. History buffs will love learning about the fur trade, colonial ships, transportation on the river, how tobacco was grown among many other informative displays about the maritime heritage history. One of the biggest Connecticut attractions at the museum is a full-size replica of the Turtle Submarine, the first submarine used from the American Revolutionary period. Plan to spend an hour at the museum as you browse over the exhibits about the quaint town of Essex and the history related to it.
